WCNPD Mission Statement

The mission of the Wayne County Network for Progressive Democracy (WCNPD) is to foster hope, opportunity, fairness, and community in Wayne County by supporting a st of values that include the free circulation of ideas, equal economic opportunity, social justice, responsibility to future generations, and environmental stewardship. The WCNPD will accomplish its mission through the political processes and organizations within our local communities.

To accomplish its mission, the WCNPD will work with the community to promote an open dialogue about issues that affect Wayne County residents. The WCNPD believes the best way to accomplish its mission is to increase broad-based support, including non-partisan, of democratic issues and candidates in Wayne County. This will be accomplished primarily through efforts to educate the local community about democratic values, articulation of the progressive position on local issues, and to promote candidates who support these positions.

In accordance with this mission statement, it is the intent of the founding members of the WCNPD that:

• any citizen who agrees with this mission statement and will abide by the By-laws is welcome to join,
• it will be a separate institution from any political party with its own Bylaws, officers and budget
• it will work to support and encourage advancement of the values set forth
  in the mission statement.

Current Projects

Eyes Wide Open

We are currently working with area groups and churches to bring the Eyes Wide Open Memorial to Wooster in Wayne County. The Eyes Wide Open Memorial is the American Friends Service Committee’s widely-acclaimed exhibition on the human cost of the Iraq War, features a pair of boots honoring each U.S. military casualty, a field of shoes and a Wall of Remembrance to memorialize the Iraqis killed in the conflict, and a multimedia display exploring the history, cost and consequences of the war.

Land Use

We are working to help build a sustainable and community based approach to land use and preservation in Wayne County.

Bringing a Progressive Voice to Wayne County

Our primary mission is to provide an opportunity for progressives of all stripes to have a platform and organization in Wayne County that will help them get their message out to Wayne County residents. To that end we currently mainatin a space in downtown Wooster that can be used for organizational purposes by all progressive groups within our community or who wish to speak to our community. To help accomplish this goal we are also working to expand our membership base through fundraising and membership drives.
